It has been awhile since our last blog post because we have been gearing up for Back to School. This weekend is Ohio's Tax Free Holiday as well and I think it is the best time to get all of your BTS shopping done. We have a few cute things coming soon plus tons of new arrivals coming in weekly.
On to our projects! The first one is making flowers that can be hung from the ceiling or stuck to the wall made out of tissue paper. First you need to decide what colors you want to use. Katem went with lime green, yellow, and a teal blue.
Next she created a pattern to have her flower with layers.
This next part was a bit tricky but it doesn't have to be perfect to get a good looking flower. Take all of the layers and fold them up about 1" up.
Flip the whole stack over and fold up 1". Repeat this process of accordion folding until there is no more left to fold.
Next take a pipe cleaner, cable tie, or even string and tie it tight around the middle of the folded papers.
You can now pick how to shape your petals. We went with a pointed edge but a rounded edge looks just as nice. Simply take a pair of scissors and trim down the edges of the petals to the desired shape.
Next open your accordion and gentle pull each sheet of tissue paper away from the one next to it.
Continue pulling apart the layers of tissue until you have a rounded flower. Be careful not to pull too quickly or you may rip the tissue. All done!
Our second project of the week was creating puzzles with popsicle sticks. I searched for coloring pages on Google and let Katem choose which ones she liked best. I then printed out the pages and she colored them with markers. Then we measured out how many popsicle sticks we needed to fit our picture.
Next we used spray adhesive on the back of the picture. Then we flipped the picture over and placed on top of the popsicle sticks.
We let the puzzle dry for an hour and then used an Exacto knife to separate the popsicle sticks.
Here is Katem playing with her new puzzles!
